Bitchin' Beauty Buys! Jen's Top 10! ♥♥♥

Hey Kids! In addition to my regular blog entries occasionally I'll be doing articles and reviews on beauty products and anything else that takes my fancy. In this first article I'm going to tell you my favourite beauty products at the moment and why I like them. (Boys can you stop reading now- unless you wanna prevent premature aging on your sack!?!)

For those of you who do not know I have a diploma in beauty therapy. It's something I've always had a niche for, even before paying $6,000 for someone to sign a bit of paper saying so. I don't have any qualifications when it comes to hair but I have hair (it's a start!), and I have been colouring and cutting my own and my girlfriends hair for a good 13+ years. I've also dabbled in hair extensions. I'm always trying new shit and have found some really great products over the years... Most of them VERY reasonably priced. In fact I very rarely spend up big on high end beauty products because 99% of the time it's just a waste of money. It's all about quality ingredients. Below I'm going to tell you my top 10 products at the moment and why I love them! I'll tell you their going price, what I paid and attach a link for each product and a picture! Enjoy!!!

MY TOP 10!!!
These are in no particular order:

10. Redken Smooth Down De-tangling Cream. I get this on ebay from the US. Even with the cost of international post it still works out cheaper than getting it within Australia and the American version comes in a bigger tube. I have VERY long and very processed hair. It's also quite thin but I have a lot of it... Basically my hair is a bitch. I put this through my towel dried hair after shampooing and conditioning, leave for a minute and then comb out any tangles with ease. It's not heavy or greasy and I have noticed that then next time I wash my hair it's incredibly soft without having to do anything! I paid $25.00 including post for 250ml. The Australian version is 200mls and about $31.

09. Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Moisture Cream- This is a new find. I absolutely love it. As the name suggests it's a night cream and is packed with vitamins and nutrients to help your skin recover and repair while you sleep. It has an orgasmic fresh orange smell and I really look forward to using this cream before bed time! I paid $35 incl. post for 50 mls. I'm pretty sure this isn't available in Australia, but i could be wrong. The RRP is US$35

08. Maybelline Full N Soft Mascara in very black. Every now and then I get suckered into buying one of those new "does everything, sexually satisfying, more than a mascara" mascara's! Every fucking time without fail I regret it! Fact is I love this mascara. It doesn't make your lashes feel like your nan's pubes (what can I say, Me and Nan are CLOSE!), you can build it up and up and UP with out clumping and it separates my lashes beautifully. Best part is you can pick up this mascara for about $12 at any decent discount chemist. I paid $9. (Tip: this is also a really good "base" mascara. If I'm after really dramatic lashes I apply this to my lashes then top it off my a coat of Covergirl Lash Blast in Luxe Black. I paid $10)

07. Revlon Skinlights in natural light 01- It did sell for around $32. The fuckers don't make this anymore! I have it stock piled though!!! Don't you just HATE it when you find a product you love and then they stop making it? Well that's what Revlon did! This is the most beautiful highlight/ shimmer powder and they got rid of all except for the golden light colour which makes me look like Malibu Barbie's deformed slutty cousin! Not good! Anyway i hunted and hunted and finally replaced it with chi chi champagne sparkle dust which I found out by accident tastes and smells really fucking good!? The next time I go to buy it... fucking gone! Discontinued! Was someone fucking with me? Anyway I ended up finding that ICE ACCESSORIES had the o/s version which was exactly the same for $20 a tub... So i stocked up! Occasionally you can find it on ebay too... If you have a darker complexion than my gorgeous shade of living dead white try one of the darker shades. Colour matching isn't essential because it's being applied sparingly anyway.

06. Urban Decay eyeshadow- All of the colours are good but I like Oil Slick and Cherry. Their packaging is AMAZING! Super cute and funky! These are great eye shadows and pretty much everything in their collection is WINNING!!! Ooo Charlie Sheen just channelled through me! Hahaha. Their eye shadows don't flake and fall on your face which is particularly great with the darker colours like oil slick (it's black with glitter) and literally one swipe of the palette is enough to do an entire lid, so it lasts. Which it would want to coz it's slightly pricey.Cherry is a nice shimmery semi transparent pink colour. Their eyeliners are vivid and can be blended and used in place of eye shadow.

There eyeliners are $18 each off their website. This doesnt include freight from the US. The eyeshadow's are $17 each excl. freight. I purchased a 9 colour palette called the Skull Shadow Box Palette and paid $29.50 incl post. You're much better off doing it that way and having a try of a few different colours. There's over 50 different eyeshadow colours to chooses from and they are always releasing limited edition colours and palettes. Their website is gorgeous and also has how to videos and tips. http://www.urbandecay.com/eyeshadow/14,default,pd.html?dwvar_14_color=CherryEyeShadow&start=1&q=cherry

05. Bliss Vanilla + Bergamot Body Buff (exfoliant). This is a big old tub of body scrub! It's the first "dry" scrub I've used. As in you rub it on BEFORE you hop in the shower. I LOVE THIS!!! My skin feels amazing after I use it and I can smell the beautiful vanilla and bergamot aroma on my skin for hours after I've showered! The good thing about the dry scrub is because I do it in the mirror I don't miss any bits like I would if I was doing it in the shower. BLISS is actually a top end beauty spa in the states that now sell, with much success, their own line of products. This goes for US$36 excl freight. I paid $36.50 including freight. it comes in a 340g tub.

04. Gucci Rush- This is the only fragrance on the list but trust me it belongs here! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shit! Big time! Not to be confused with Gucci rush 2 which comes in a purple-ish dispenser. There's no way of really being able to accurately describe a fragrance unless you're well versed in fragrance lingo... Personally I'd sound like an arrogant twat if I carried on about a fragrance's "cheeky wooden under tones hinting at a ripple of sophistication and possibly having an top note of 3 day old tulips that were hand picked by a midget in a little Bulgarian village called Lickzen-ze Dikin!" Point is: this baby smells good! Real good! It makes me want to make love to myself... WELL! It's like they took what sex should smell like and bottled it!!! My only criticism is the packaging isn't that fantastic, not for the price you pay. It goes for about $110 for 50mls or $139 for 75mls. I paid $80 for 75mls incl postage! BARGAIN! That's $60 off and I got it delivered to my door!

03. Australis eyeliner in blackest black- Australis has come a LONG way since those poxy tubes of chemical smelling bright orange oompa loompa foundation and shitty little eyeshadow palettes that the lid always snapped off of causing bright blues and pinks to be evenly distributed over EVERY other product in your make up bag!!! I don't bother buying other eyeliners coz if you find a product that works why go looking for something else? I have tried lots of other eyeliner's (when working at different salons or getting free samples) including Revlon, Maybelline, Napoleon, Wet N Wild, Smashbox etc. This is definitely better than, or at very least on par with Napoleons onyx eyeliner pencil...The Australis goes for about $11 at Target or Priceline where as Napoleon's version goes for about $25.
This eye liner is a nice gel/wax like texture so it glides on well but isn't overly greasy making it smudge.

They have actually changed the look of this product.  I can't find a new pic. The pencil is now entirely black.

I use the Normal/ Dry version.
02. Revlon ColorStay foundation- Arrrrgh ye olde faithful! I've tried lots of different foundations. But I always end up back with Revlon ColorStay. Pro's it does what the name suggests. Con's you absolutely must wear a primer or moisturiser before applying it or you'll end up with skid marks on your face!?! Don't use an overly greasy or oily moisturiser or I find it compromises the longevity of the product. I usually cleanse, moisturise, apply concealer and blend (which takes about 2 mins) which is enough time for my skin to absorb the moisturiser or primer then apply foundation. I find it essential to use powder to properly set the base or I feel slightly sticky. Wait a few minutes for the foundation to 'set' before applying powder, especially in the warmer months. otherwise i find you end up with a dry powdery caked on mess. Blot powder on initially then I use a large soft brush to sweep the powder evenly over my face and down my neck... You can use the puff or sponge supplied with your powder but this, for me leaves me a bit cakey looking. Although if you have a blemish or two you can use the powder puff to add an extra dab of powder to these areas for better coverage... I then follow this with item 07 on my list and apply blush if they mood takes me. If I do apply blush I gently do one last sweep over my face with my powder brush which I also use to apply both the shimmer/ highlighter so the blush blends into my base and looks apart of it rather than an add on. I think this is about $35+ now in Target etc. I paid $15 incl. post.

01. Alpha Keri oil. I don't really get dry skin on my body. However when I was pregnant with my fat boy my skin got so dry it was actually painful. When I moved it felt like I had severe sunburn. I tried everything until I remembered that my mother use to use Keri oil. Basically you get out the shower and WHILE STILE WET rub this oil into you skin. It's actually quite a fine oil with a light natural fragrance which is pleasing to the palate... Hahaha sorry I wandered into the pretentious-ville there for a moment! Hahaha! Yeah so it smells good aiight! Better? After this pat yourself dry and get dressed. This transformed my skin literally over night. It can also be used it the bath and I use it on the kiddies too, especially Isabelle who has eczema. I got this from my local chemist who aren't the cheapest around and I think I paid $13 for 500ml which lasts a fair while. It also comes in a 1 litre bottle. I couldn't actually find a website, which is surprising because it's been around for ages. Here is a page with more reviews and info.

  2. No babe. Revlon don't make any of them anymore. Some are still for sale on ebay and in certain stores like ice accessories but from what I've seen it's just the Golden light, warm light and bronze light left :(

  5. very good. Love girly tips.
i have a few. im a therapist myself but i do lots of research on hair products aswell. My favorite are:
Joyco heat protector. Better then the GHD heat protecter and half the price as it does not leave the hair stiff at all. spray as much as you want. its silky soft.
Thermal ionic hair dryer. Cheap from K-mart. $50 and leaves my hair shinny and is very safe. doesn.t dry it due to the ionic steaming action.
Argan Oil Treatment. Baby sister of the Moroccan oil and half the price. bought at price attack. So soft on the hair and so good to infuse moisture to the tips.
Hot oil treatment. Made at home. Heat 2Tbs Olive oil and half cup of baby oil with aloe vera until it feels luke warm. apply all over the hair and wrap in cling wrap and leave for 30 mins. rinse in warm water. i use a little tiny bit of Shampoo to make sure my hair isnt left with too much oil.
Im very interested in knowing a good shampoo Jen. I have used many different kinds and still dont really know what a good one is.
Facial exfoliation. Honestly they can cost from around $10-$60. i make my own with a drizzle of olive oil and crushed sea salt. Oh my. try this Jen it is soooooooo good. the oil moisturizes so you get two steps in one. i have very bad skin so the salt really cleans it.
loreal Miniral Make up- powder. The best coverage ever and all natural and my skin never ever breaks out after using it. it last for a while aswell. cost about $35. last forever.
Lip plump from Avon. Yes this makes my lips appear bigger and only cost $10. Wear it as a gloss or prep or both. just apply like lip stick.
Glam nails nail enamel. This goes on your nail like a sticker and last up to two weeks. i got the full two weeks of colour from my last use. this cost $10 from the Chemist. No drying time and takes 10 mins to apply. You get the best salon finish. I cant even make nail polish go on as well as this looks.
I hope you can try some of those Jen.
Your Blogs are great I love reading them they crack me up.

  6. WHAT AN AWESOME COMMENT!!! AND ITS THE FIRST COMMENT FROM SOMEONE WHO ISNT A FRIEND! (THAT SOUNDS NASTY BUT WHAT I MEAN IS, I LOVE FEEDBACK FROM TOTALLY INDEPENDENT PERSON(S) WHO AREN'T AFRAID I MAY HUNT THEM DOWN AND STAB THEM WITH A SPOON IF I DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY! HAHAHA)
THIS GOT ME REALLY EXCITED SO MUCH SO I SQUEALED AND HAD TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS AS WELL AS POSTPONE MY CLEANING FRENZY!

YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE OLIVE OIL EXFOLIANT AND HAIR TREATMENT REMINDED ME OF MY YOUNGER DAYS WHEN I WOULD MAKE A WHOLE BUNCH OF HOME MADE MASKS ETC TO SAVE MONEY... THEY WERE BLOODY GOOD AND GOD KNOWS WHY I HAVENT MADE THEM IN SO LONG... MAYBE IF OLIVE OIL CAME IN A FANCIER BOTTLE? HAHAHA SUPERFICIAL! THE OLIVE OIL/ BABY OIL ALOE TREATMENT... I'VE TRIED BEFORE- MINUS THE ALOE. IT LEAVES YOUR HAIR SUPER SOFT! I WOULD GLAD WRAP MY HEAD AND STICK A MICROWAVE HEAT PACK ON MY NOGGIN TO OPEN UP THE HAIRS CUTICLES AND HELP REALLY GET THE TREAMENT INTO THE SHAFT! LIKE I ALWAYS SAY "YOU GOTTA WORK THE SHAFT" HAHAHA.
OLIVE OIL SEA SALT EXFOLIANT! YES! MY AUNTY INTRODUCED THIS TO ME WITH SUGAR IN PLACE OF SALT. I ACTUALLY ADDED SALT IN THE PLACE OF SUGAR (I WAS ALL OUT AND I DIDNT THINK ICING SUGAR WOULD WORK!) ONE NIGHT WHEN MY HEAD WAS LOOKING OILY AND CONGESTED AND GENERALLY WORSE FOR WEAR. BETWEEN THE SALT CLEANING AND SCRUBBING DEAD SKIN AND MY PORES AND THE OLIVE OIL NOURISHING, IT REALLY LEAVES YOUR SKIN DEWY AND SOFT, BUT ALSO CLEAN.
I WILL DEFINITELY TRY THE LOREAL MINERAL MAKE UP. I TRIED MINERAL MAKE UP WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND HATED IT. BUT I THINK LIKE ALL THINGS YOU NEVER BUY THE FIRST OF SOMETHING NEW... IT'LL ALWAYS HAVE GLITCHES!

YOU'VE INSPIRED ME! I THINK MY NEXT BEAUTY ARTICLE IS GOING TO BE HOME MADE BEAUTY PRODUCTS! I HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF RECIPES I CAN DIG UP AND SHARE!

YOU'VE MADE SOME AWESOME SUGGESTIONS. I'M GOING TO HAVE A THINK ABOUT YOUR SHAMPOO QUESTION AND YOU'RE OTHER SUGGESTIONS AND DISCUSS THEM IN MY NEXT BLOG!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENT AND IDEAS! YOU KEEP READING THEM AND ILL KEEP WRITING THEM!!! XOXOX

ALSO, WHAT KIND OF HAIR DO YOU HAVE? MINE IS THIN, CHEMICALLY LIGHTENED, WAVY, DOWN TO MY LOWER BACK. THE INDIVIDUAL HAIRS ARE THIN BUT I HAVE A LOT OF THEM. A DAYS WORTH OF OIL AND SWEAT AND MY HAIR LOOKS LIMP AND RATTY!

ANYWAY CANT WAIT TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU... ANONYMOUS! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

    JEN! XOXO
